JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry said Tuesday morning he “would be honored to host the Republican National Convention."
This comes after President Donald Trump threatened Monday to pull the Republican National Convention out of North Carolina if the state’s Democratic governor doesn’t immediately sign off on allowing a full-capacity gathering in August despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

In a series of tweets, Curry said the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena was able to host “the world’s first pro live sporting event since COVID-19” in partnership with UFC and that the city has “demonstrated the ability to host large events in a safe and responsible way.”
Curry said that he would be honored to host the RNC “in that same world class facility.”
He also said that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his administration “have created a regulatory framework that operates in way that is attractive to significant events like these."
