New poll shows Charlie Crist as favorable candidate for 2022 Florida Governor election

FLORIDA — A recent poll is giving Floridians a first look at the 2022 race for governor since the new surge of coronavirus cases.

Earlier this week, St. Pete Polls called nearly 4,000 Floridians around the state to conduct a survey related to current events in Florida.

Nearly 9% of respondents were in the Jacksonville area, 62.1% were white and nearly 39% were registered Republicans.

THE SURVEY

  • Do you approve of the job Ron DeSantis is doing as governor?
  • Do you approve of the job Joe Biden is doing as president?
  • If the election for governor of Florida were held today, and the candidates were Republican Ron DeSantis and Democrat Charlie Crist, who would you vote for?
  • If the election for governor of Florida were held today, and the candidates were Republican Ron DeSantis and Democrat Nikki Fried, who would you vote for?

THE RESULTS

The poll findings show that nearly 49% do not approve of the job DeSantis is doing as governor, and if an election were held today, Charlie Crist is likely to get more support than DeSantis.

45.3% of poll respondents were in favor of Crist, 43.8% were in favor of DeSantis and almost 11% are undecided.

In previous polls, DeSantis had as much as a double digit lead over Christ. The margin of error is 1.6%, which at best would put the two candidates in a tie.

However, DeSantis still leads over Nikki Fried. According to the survey, 45.1% of Floridians said they would vote for DeSantis, while 41.8% would vote for Nikki Fried and 13.1% were undecided.

Action News Jax reported when Gov. Ron DeSantis signed an executive order that will prevent mask mandates for children attending school in Florida. According to St. Pete Polls, 62% of Floridians who participated in the poll believe wearing face masks in school for the 2021-22 year should be required.

Almost 49% approve of the job Biden is doing as president and nearly 46% disapprove, with 5.6% of poll voters saying they are unsure.
