JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — As a winter storm moves through Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia, some school districts are beginning to announce if classes will resume.
This list will be updated as Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia district schools, private schools, colleges, and universities announce if they will open back up or remain closed.

Northeast Florida:
Baker County
Baker County Schools posted the following message from Superintendent Wyatt Milton on the district’s website: “We will resume school on Thursday, January 23, 2025.”
Bradford County
Bradford County Schools said Tuesday morning that, “Schools and District Offices will ... reopen Thursday, January 23rd. Stay warm and safe Tornadoes!”
Clay County
Clay County District Schools said, “We anticipate resuming normal operations on Thursday, January 23rd.”
Columbia County
Columbia County Schools said Tuesday, “We anticipate reopening schools on Thursday, January 23, but will provide a final confirmation in a follow-up update on Wednesday.”
Duval County
Duval County Public Schools sent a message to families on Wednesday saying, “Duval County Public Schools will be open and fully operational tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 23. The weather is expected to be very cold for the remainder of the week. Parents and guardians are encouraged to ensure students are dressed in winter wear appropriate for the conditions. We look forward to seeing everyone back in school tomorrow!
Nassau County
Nassau County School District said Tuesday, “We are working closely with Nassau Emergency Management to monitor conditions and will share updates as they become available..”
Putnam County
Putnam County School District said Tuesday afternoon, “Although cold weather is expected for the remainder of the week, schools will resume as scheduled on Thursday. Please ensure students are dressed warmly for bus rides and outdoor activities.”
Union County
Union County School District shared the following information on its website on Tuesday: “The district will re-open on Thursday, January 23, 2025, and resume all normal activities.”

Southeast Georgia:
Brantley County
The Brantley County School System shared the following update Wednesday: “Due to ice on the roads, all Brantley County schools and offices will be closed again on Thursday, January 23, 2025. We will continue to collaborate with safety officials to make a decision regarding Friday by 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.”
Camden County
Camden County Schools said Monday: “We will provide an update on Wednesday after we assess the readiness of roads and our buildings for reopening on Thursday, January 23, 2025.”
Charlton County
Charlton County Schools said Monday that, “Schools are scheduled to be open and on regular schedule Thursday, Jan. 23rd.”
Glynn County
Glynn County Schools said Wednesday, “Due to icy roads and widespread power outages across our community and schools, Glynn County Schools will remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 23. This closure includes all after-school and athletic activities. Weather permitting and a thorough assessment of our school buildings, we anticipate safely resuming school on Friday, Jan. 24.”
Pierce County
Pierce County Schools has not yet issued an update on Thursday’s status.
Ware County
Ware County Schools said all schools and “the Central Office will remain closed on Thursday, January 23, 2025. The safety of our students, staff, and community remains our foremost priority. We will evaluate conditions and make a decision regarding school operations for Friday, January 24, 2025, on Thursday afternoon. Updates will be shared promptly via email, as well as through our other communication channels.”

Private schools:
Christ’s Church Academy and Preschool: Thursday (January 23rd) the school plans to resume all campus activities as scheduled.
Jacksonville Country Day School: School is set to be in session Thursday, Jan. 23.
Providence School of Jacksonville: “We plan to resume all campus activities on Thursday, January 23rd.”
St. Johns Country Day School: Staff will keep families updated with any further announcements.
Colleges and Universities:
Florida Gateway College: The school said it expects to be open Thursday.
Florida State College at Jacksonville: “Should a change in the weather impact operations on Thursday, alerts will be provided through email communication, alerts via our text alert system, the FSCJ Safe app and social media.”
University of North Florida: “The University plans to reopen for normal operations on Thursday, January 23. Any changes to this plan will be communicated as soon as possible.”
