Action News Jax investigates: Jacksonville apartment with a leaky roof

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax is investigating a local apartment complex after a woman said there are huge holes in her ceiling from an apparent leak.

“It’s kind of terrifying,” said Aerial Robinson, who has lived at Riviera Parkway Apartments for more than a year. “I’ve never seen anything like this before,” she told Action News Jax reporter Ben Becker.

A water leak has left sheetrock and fiberglass insulation all over the floor, and Robinson has been staying at a hotel since the weekend to stay out of harm’s way.

Robinson said she could not get in contact with the property manager, and as Becker headed to the leasing office, he ran into the maintenance man.

“I have nothing to say,” the man told Becker.

But Teri Kelsey, the property manager of another property owned by the same company, showed up, and Becker pressed her for answers

“I’m going to go see what we got and where we are at from there,” said Kelsey.

Kelsey says the company has only owned the apartments for two months and inherited many of the problems, but Robinson says that’s not an excuse.

“I wish my request was taken serious Saturday when my water was leaking in because I think this could have been prevented,” Robinson said.

Kelsey tells Becker that roofers and contractors will take care of the mess.

“Terri, you are going to make this right?” Becker asked.

“Yeah, I’m definitely going make it right, definitely,” said Kelsey.
