New allegations, local support for Jacksonville doctor accused of inappropriately touching patients

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax is investigating accusations against a local doctor who is now banned from seeing female patients.

The state surgeon general placed a restrictive order on Dr. Guy Selander, a family physician in Jacksonville. The initial report accused him of inappropriately touching a patient. It states Selander reportedly "slapped a female patient's rear end in July 2018."

Friday, the Florida Department of Health issued a Scrivener's Error. It stated the allegations were made in July 2019, not July 2018. The correction makes no substantive change to the charges in the Order of Emergency Restriction of License.

As clarification, Selander is only under investigation. No allegations have been proven.

Since Action News Jax first reported the story Thursday evening, several women called and claimed to be former patients of Selander. They each reported similar allegations of inappropriate touching.

"It was very uncomfortable," April Estes said. "Whenever he was listening to my heartbeat, he grabbed my whole breast."

Estes said she saw Selander in April 2012. She said she went in for a prescription refills and claims Selander gave her a breast examination instead. When she tried to get dressed, she claims he stayed in the room.

"I just felt violated basically," Estes said. "I had to put my shirt and bra on in front of him and it was just very awkward and weird."

Action News Jax spoke to three other people who said they were also patients of his and strongly defended Selander as a physician.

"Just a very good doctor, very polite man, never anything out of the way," Judy Roumillad said.

Roumillad said she has been Selander's patient since the 1960s and has never had an issue with him. She is also a retired nurse for other medical practices in Jacksonville.

"As a matter of fact, I just have a lab request to go and get blood work done Monday, because I just saw Selander two weeks ago," Roumillad said.

Memorial Hospital declined to answer any questions about Selander or his practice with Memorial Family Medicine. However, a spokesperson said he is currently banned from seeing female patients.

Action News Jax is working to confirm if Selander continued treating patients for the three months after the allegations were made. The Department of Health told Action News Jax the restrictions went in to place once the emergency order was signed and filed at the department.

Action News Jax has continued to reach out to Selander to hear his side of the story, but has not heard back.
