Woman critically injured in crash on Race Track Road, U.S. 1

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — (UPDATE 3:50 P.M.): The Florida Highway Patrol has identified the driver of the Hyandai Sonata who was critically injured Wednesday morning.

Jessica Yi, 34 of Ponte Vedra, was driving an 11-year-old girl when the crash happened, the FHP said. The 11-year-old girl was initially said to be in critical condition, but the FHP termed her injuries as minor.

The FHP said alcohol was not a factor.

(UPDATE 10:02 A.M.): The Florida Highway Patrol said the accident, which happened at 6:55 a.m., involved seven people.

A 2014 Hyundai Sonata was trying to turn left onto Race Track Road from U.S. 1 when the driver stopped, then accelerated as a 2007 Ford F-150 was approaching the intersection, FHP said. The two vehicles collided, and the two people in the Hyandai were critically injured by the impact. Both were taken to UF Health Jacksonville.

The Ford truck had five occupants. One man was taken to Baptist South for treatment of minor injuries, but all five men in the vehicle escaped serious injury.

FHP said charges are pending.

A woman is at the hospital in critical condition after a crash Wednesday morning on Race Tack Road .

The crash happened before 7 a.m. at Race Track Road at U.S. 1 in St. Johns County.

Officials closed all westbound lanes of Race Track Road for about two hours as they investigate.

A truck traveling south on U.S. 1 and a silver car was making a turn on Race Track Road from the northbound turn lane, according to St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

There were two people in the car, a mother and daughter. The mother was driving the car and was was airlifted to UF Health Jacksonville. She is in in critical condition. The daughter was taken to a hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

There were five people in the truck and one was hospitalized for minor injuries, said SJSO.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
