Medical examiner: Men in burning car in St. Augustine had been shot

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Two bodies found in a burned SUV last Wednesday in St. Augustine have been positively identified, according to the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

The District Medical Examiner has positively identified the remains as those of Staffon Demarius Larry, 26, of St. Augustine, and Charles Ray Durden, 27, of Fleming Island, SJSO said in a news release.

The bodies of Larry and Durden were found in a burning SUV near Fred Waters Way and Spring Street just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

The District Medical Examiner's Office ruled Durden and Larry's deaths as homicides; their causes of death were gunshots and arson.

The families of Durden and Larry met at the crime scene on Sunday, where a memorial for the two men has been growing.

, the mothers of the two men pleaded for answers.

"I’m praying to God that somebody please come forward,” Durden's mother Annette said. “These two kids didn’t deserve to go out like that.”

Durden's family said funeral arrangements are confirmed for Saturday, November 26, 2016, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Paul AME Church, St. Augustine, 85 M.L. King St.
