In the first outlook of this upcoming hurricane season, Colorado State University has predicted “slightly below average” hurricane activity, although a slightly more active season in terms of named storms.
Experts at CSU predict 13 named storms -- five to become a hurricane and two to become a Category 3 or higher hurricane.
Those numbers are slightly below the average hurricane season.

According to the First Alert Weather team, on average, there are 12 named storms during the Atlantic hurricane season. Six of those storms, on average, become hurricanes and two strengthen to Category 3 or higher.
