Over the last week, Florida’s gas prices have dropped 12 cents per gallon, and 41 cents over the last 31 days.

AAA said crude oil prices have plummeted a total of 29% in the last month – during the last week alone, crude prices dropped 11%. These price drops are due to concerns over a potential recession. AAA public relations manager Mark Jenkins explained.

“This is mainly a global issue. There are global concerns about economic recession and how that could ultimately lead to consumers making some choices to possibly travel less and drive less,” Jenkins said.

Action News Jax caught up with local commuter Aiden Ogorman, who said that in the past before gas prices fell, he had to limit how many trips he made back home to Daytona.

“My family and my fiancé's family have encouraged us in the past to not come home when it was higher,” Ogorman said.

“When it was high, I couldn’t go anywhere,” Virginia Lacey said.

Locals like Virginia Lacey, who are on a fixed income, say lower gas prices could not have come at a better time.

“I drive a Kia Sportage and it cost to fill up about $45,” Lacey said.

AAA said that because of the low gas prices this Christmas season, it’s going to be one of the busiest along the state’s roads. A total of 6.3 million Floridians are expected to be traveling, which is why AAA has prepared its crews to respond to 899,000 potential stranded motorists.

AAA said the state’s average price for a gallon of gas is currently $3.14 in Duval, the average price for a gallon of gas is $3.12.
