Active sea breeze this week means more heavy downpours

Jacksonville, Fl — Action News Jax Meteorologist Corey Simma says the sea breeze plays a big role in rain and thunderstorms for the week ahead.

“The sea breeze today will continue to progress inland at a fairly decent clip. Like we saw over the weekend. So that keeps I-95 and the beaches in the threat for isolated showers midday, and then inland spots will see the threat for heavier storms.”, Simma said.

Storms on Tuesday should stay closer to I-95 with heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast all the way to the beaches. Simma says Tuesday appears to be the wettest day of the week.

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch for Baker, Bradford, Union, and Alachua County. Parts of Baker County saw flooded streets on Sunday as storms dumped several inches of rain.

Waterspouts will also be possible through late morning for the Northeast Florida and Southeast Georgia Atlantic waters.

Wednesday - Friday will features scattered afternoon storms and temperatures in the low 90s - which is average.

TROPICS: We are tracking a couple of tropical waves in the Atlantic basin. The one to talk about is currently in the Central Atlantic. This wave will likely try to develop over the next few days as it moves WNW. It looks like this will miss the Lesser Antilles and Puerto Rico. We will be tracking it.
