ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. — UPDATE 7:45 p.m.: A 4-year-old who was taken to the hospital after a crash that claimed his parents' and another driver's lives Sunday morning has died, according to sources close to the family.

Original Story: A head-on crash on State Road 24 at Northeast 69th Way in Alachua County killed three people Sunday morning, Florida Highway Patrol says.
According to the report, the driver of a 2019 Hyundai Elantra was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of SR 24 (also called Waldo Road) when the car collided with a Toyota RAV 4.

Two adults inside the RAV 4 were killed and have been identified as Christopher M. Hesling, 30, and Brittany Trowell Hesling, 31, both of St. Marys, Georgia. A 4-year-old who was also in the RAV 4 was transported to UF Health at Shands in critical condition. A 6-month-old was transported as well, but with minor injuries.
A representative with Naval Base Mayport said Christopher Hesling worked in the Morale Welfare and Recreation department on base.
In a statement, they said:
"We are heartbroken over this tragedy and our thoughts and prayers are with the families that are coping with this incredible loss."
The driver of the Elantra also died and is still pending positive identification due to the car sustaining fire damage after the collision, according to FHP.
