Amber Bass family pushes for answers 10 months later

Amber Bass
Ten months have passed since a local woman was gunned down in the driveway of her Jacksonville home.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Amber Bass, 22, was killed July 19, 2013 outside her home on Springtree Road. The case remains unsolved, but family members tell Action News they believe JSO is getting much closer to an arrest.

“I hear from the detective that’s on her case on a regular basis, like weekly,” said Barbara Bass, mother. “They feel like they’re getting answers. They feel like they’re getting close.”

Family members said they’re waiting for the day they get a phone call that an arrest has been made.

“They’re very confident with the leads that they have and it’s just literally a matter of time before this person is going to be picked up and put in jail,” said Barbara Bass.

Loved ones described Amber as energetic and helpful. They said she loved the beach, cake decorating and shopping. She was a girl scout and was dedicated to her job. They said she had no enemies.

“I know that she’s in heaven, but it's hell on earth without her,” her mother said, adding that the pain is not getting easier with time.

A Crime Stoppers sign remains outside the home where the shooting happened, reminding anyone who passes of the continued need for tips.

“It could be the most tiniest, tiniest piece of information that could just blow this completely out of the water and help this hurting family,” said Barbara Bass. “Because Amber deserves better.”

Amber’s sister, Robin Lezcano, continues to update the Facebook page “Justice for Amber Bass.” The family also holds rallies to encourage the community to come forward with information. She said detectives encourage them to continue their efforts.

“They have told us that what we’re doing is helping the case in so many ways and so it’s very encouraging,” said Lezcano. “But also frustrating because here we are doing all these things. We know JSO is doing all they can and still can’t get the public to really take this seriously.”

She said they pray the person responsible is caught before another family falls victim.

“If you turn that person in, how many more families are you saving?” Lezcano said.

If you have any information on the case you’re asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-845-TIPS. You could be eligible for a $3,100 reward.
