Beach water advisory in Glynn County

Glynn County, Fla. — The Department of Natural Resources advises Glynn County residents to not go in beaches for a short period due to a bacteria outbreak.

Costal Resources Division tests water samples in Glynn County throughout the year. It tested the water and found a enterococcus bacteria, which is found in humans and in some wildlife.

This is not an unusual advisory but it is mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency. This bacteria may have come from animal waste, storm water runoff or boating waste.

The beaches are not closed but the health department recommends you do not swim in the ocean water while the advisory is still in play. Residents are fishing are recommended to wash any fish thoroughly and to fully cook it before eating.

The area will be retesting the water this week and the advisory will be lifted if water levels are back to EPA standards.
