JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported that a cyclist is dead after being struck by a car on Normandy Blvd. early Saturday morning.

At around 4 a.m., a man was riding his bicycle eat on the westbound lane of Normandy Blvd. At the same time, a Dodge Ram was traveling westbound and made multiple attempts to avoid the cyclist but was unsuccessful.
The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department was called, but the cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The age of the victim is currently unknown.

The driver and passenger of the Dodge Ram remained at the scene and are cooperating with police. No one else was involved in the accident.
This marks the 61st traffic fatality in Duval County this year.
The incident is still under investigation, but police believe the cyclist was going the wrong way on Normandy Blvd. In addition, police believe foggy conditions could have contributed to the crash.
