Bicyclist killed in Columbia County accident

COLUMBIA COUNTY, Fla. — A bicyclist is dead after being runover by a truck Tuesday morning on northbound Interstate 75 at the State Road 47 exit ramp. It happened at about 8 a.m. A truck driver, a 58-year-old Melbourne man, was hauling a trailer before coming to a complete stop at the I-75 intersection with State Road 47, a Florida Highway Patrol news release states.

A bicyclist was traveling south within the pedestrian crosswalk and the truck driver turned onto State Road 47 colliding and running over the bicyclist, a 64-year-old Lake City man, the news release states.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. FHP said an investigation on the accident is ongoing.
