JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Wildlife officials want to know who shot and killed a black bear in Duval County.
According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the male bear was found outside a gated private property on Boney Road, located west of Pumpkin Hill Creek Preserve State Park.
FWC said the animal weighed approximately 250 pounds and had been shot in the head. Officials estimate the bear was killed on the afternoon of Dec. 10 and dropped off outside the residence between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m.
“The investigation into who committed this crime is continuing, and a reward is being offered if the information leads to an arrest,” said FWC Officer Specialist Tim Sweat.
Anyone with information about this incident should call the FWC Wildlife Alert Hotline at 1-888-404-3922. Callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 if the information leads to an arrest.
