Boil water advisory in effect for Orange Park neighborhood following water main break

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — A neighborhood in Clay County was without water for hours because of a water main break.

The break happened at Moody Avenue and Meadow Drive. The Clay County Utility Authority says it was reported around 4:45 a.m and a crew at the scene told Action News Jax the water was restored around 3:00 p.m.

Teri Shoemaker with the Clay County Utility Authority said neighbors in Highland Grove had no water after crews shut it off as they worked to repair the main. Though the break happened in the Meadows neighborhood, Shoemaker says neighbors there didn’t lose water.

“The neighborhood we’re in now at the Meadows, their pipe serving these residents is a different pipe than the one that broke,” she explained. “So these people, although we’re standing here and they see the crews, they’re fine with their water.”

Like neighbors in Highland Grove, the Sugar and Spice daycare and the YMCA also lost water.

Around midday, Shoemaker told Action News Jax crews were looking into the cause of the main break. “This is a little bigger-size main. We’ve had a couple in the last six months of this – more size, so they’re pretty rare,” she said.

Shoemaker says neighbors in Highland Grove will have to do a precautionary water boil for the next couple of days.

One neighbor told Action News Jax she wasn’t bothered by the main break but said it was an inconvenience.

The authority says it will post a notice on neighbors’ doors when the water advisory is lifted. Click on this link for more details here.

The county says the intersection of Moody and Meadow will remain shut down for at least five days while crews do repairs.
