Bolles to limit older student’s cell phone use starting in the new year

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Starting on Jan. 6, the Bolles San Jose Campus will be cell phone and smartwatch free during the academic day, according to an email sent to parents on Wednesday.

Cell phone use won’t be allowed from 8 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. except for special circumstances.

Teachers can let students use their phones for assignments.

Students with free periods can check their phones briefly, but it must be done outside of the building.

Parents will be able to contact students by calling or emailing the school or their student’s email.

Students will be able to ask for permission to use a school phone if needed.

The school said those with documented needs will be accommodated.

This new policy applies only to the Upper School.
