STARKE, Fla. — A Starke woman is dead after police say her sister stabbed her in the chest Sunday.
Amanda Godwin is charged with first degree murder.
The Bradford County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at the 2000 block of NE 173rd St. early Sunday morning.
Deputies found Rachel Combs lying in the driveway in a pool of blood and her sister, Amanda Godwin, crying for help.
Friends tell Action News Jax they’re baffled -- they say the sisters loved each other.
Keith Warren had known the victim, Combs, for over 20 years.
“She was always just the brightest person, insanely intelligent, always had a good attitude,” he said.
Warren says Combs loved people and enjoyed making their days a little brighter.
“She was just an amazing person, and she’s made a huge difference in my life, and she will be very dearly missed.”
Warren is still reeling from Sunday morning’s events.
He says the sisters had been at a bar Saturday evening and everything seemed to be fine.
An arrest report says deputies responded to a call about a reported stabbing in Starke.
In the report, deputies say Godwin said, “take me to prison, it’s all my fault,” and, “she came at me with a rake. Just give me a life sentence… I deserve it.”
“I can’t picture Amanda even doing this,” Warren said. “They had some sort of sibling issue and it got out of hand and now we are one person less in the world. I know Amanda probably feels horrible, and I can’t even imagine what was going through Rachel’s mind when it happened.”
Warren says Combs leaves behind a wife and children and many people who loved her.
“Everybody that has ever had a part in Rachel’s life, or has been touched by Rachel, their lives changed positively by Rachel,” Warren said, adding that his heart goes out to everyone affected by the loss, and that the sisters were both kindhearted.
