STARKE, Fla. — UPDATE 3/21/2021 2:00 p.m.
A 31-year-old from Starke is dead after police say her sister stabbed her in the chest Sunday.
The Bradford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported stabbing Sunday around 1 a.m. on the 2000 block of NE 173rd St.
According to the BCSO’s arrest report, there was an altercation between two sisters, involving a kitchen knife and a rake.
The victim, Rachel Combs, suffered two fatal stab wound.
The arrest report stated upon deputy’s arrival, they found Combs lying in the driveway in a pool of blood, and her 34-year-old sister, Amanda Godwin, from Starke, sitting against the residence fence hysterically crying for help.
In Godwin’s cry for help she stated, “It’s all my fault” and “save my sister” according to the arrest report.
While Godwin was being escorted to the patrol car so the officials could investigate the scene, she told the deputy “go ahead and put me in cuffs” and “it’s all my fault”.
In the arrest report, it is stated Godwin said “It’s all my fault” multiple times.
Combs and Godwin’s aunt, Dorothy Truman, was at the scene and witnessed the altercation take place.
Truman told officials the relationship between the three women, and that she raised both Combs and Godwin all their lives. They were more like daughters to her.
She also said the girls were best of friends, and hardly ever fought, other than normal sister fights, according to the arrest report.
Truman said Combs told her Godwin hit her in the face with a rake.
Truman also said Combs was then threatening she was going to hit Godwin with the rake.
While Truman was being interviewed at the county jail, the detective heard Godwin screaming from another room, so he attempted to interview Godwin.
When he entered the room, she said “just take me to prison, it’s all my fault.”
She also stated “I would have never done anything to her, but she came at me with a rake. Just give me a life sentence.”
After the detective left the room, Godwin was being recorded, and stated “I deserve it” multiple times while alone in the interview room.
After initial investigations with testimonial and physical evidence, Godwin was charged with one count of first degree murder.
She is being held without bond awaiting her first court appearance which is set for Monday.
