‘They’re obviously very traumatized’: Man calls 911 to confess holding couple inside home for days

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — UPDATED STORY: Clay sheriff says potential remains discovered after suspect said he was involved in burying a body

Shocking new details are surfacing in an ongoing investigation in Green Cove Springs.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office tweeted Monday that due to an investigation, residents should expect heavy police presence near a home on County Road 315. Few details were known about the circumstances of the investigation until a news conference was held just after 1:30 p.m.

According to Sheriff Michelle Cook, dispatchers took a call just before midnight Monday from a man who said he was at a home on CR-315 and wanted to confess a crime.

Deputies responded to the home where they found two people, believed to be the homeowners or normal occupants, tied up inside. The victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators believe the couple had been tied up for a number of days.

The suspect, Aubrey Lumpkin, 46, was reportedly booked on an outstanding narcotics warrant and is being held in the Clay County Jail.

Cook says the victims have spoken to deputies and offered helpful information despite being “obviously very traumatized”.
