Six months after Hurricane Irma damaged the roof at Shoreline Apartments on Jacksonville’s Westside, the ceiling in the breezeway of Building 14 collapsed.
The ceiling is right outside the front door of a Jacksonville grandmother, who did not want to be named out of fear of retaliation by apartment management.
“I heard something fell, and I opened the door and all that was just on the floor, on the steps,” she said.
Management has since cleared out the debris, but the hole in the ceiling is still there.
“If another hard thunder comes, it’s going to knock the rest of it down,” said the grandmother.

She’s worried her ceiling will be next; it’s sagging over the living room, where her grandchild sleeps.
Property manager Eric O’Connell said two contractors are bidding to repair the roof.
O’Connell also said he’ll send maintenance staff on Tuesday morning to look at the tenant’s sagging ceiling.
