City Council committee requests testimony from political figures close to Jacksonville Mayor

$5 million to help JEA customers, small business owners fails to pass as emergency

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The City Council’s special investigatory committee dedicated on investigating the attempted sale of JEA, now wants to hear testimony from Sam Mousa, Tim Baker, Michael Munz, Alan Howard and Kevin Hyde.

Mousa, Baker, and Howard have all been asked previously to voluntarily give testimony to the committee. They all declined.

Sam Mousa was Mayor Lenny Curry’s Former Chief Administrator. When he retired, he started Mousa Consulting Group LLC, a lobbying firm that was listed as a lobbyist for NextEra Energy Inc. Tim Baker, a political consultant for Curry who sat in on closed-door meetings with JEA officials, and was a NextEra Energy Inc. consultant.

Alan Howard was a former JEA Board Member who resigned July 23, 2019. His law firm was hired by JEA to help the effort into privatization. Michael Munz is an executive from Dalton Agency and Kevin Hyde is a Foley & Lardner attorney.

The vote to get the subpoenas passed 4-0.

Another point of interest that was raised in the committee meeting was the interview conducted with former Chief Information Officer Shawn Eads. According to the memo sent to the committee, Eads said he omitted documents on the ITN negotiation team emails and JEA-issued tablets from JEA’s prior productions to the committee. In the memo, it also states that Eads “acknowledged” he deleted data on Melissa Dykes’ tablet by entering an erroneous password multiple times.

Councilmember Rory Diamond posted on twitter that he believes this is criminal.
