City Refrigeration chooses Jacksonville for its North American headquarters

An international company is expanding to the River City.

City Refrigeration will open its North American headquarters in Jacksonville, bringing more than 100 jobs to the area.

Mayor Lenny Curry made the announcement about the expansion on Thursday afternoon.

Curry said the Jacksonville Jaguars playing one game a year in London has a lot to do with this business move.

The mayor wanted to make that message clear. He said city leaders’ trips to London were not in vain and this jobs announcement is a direct result of those international trips.

City Refrigeration is one of the world’s largest privately-owned facilities management companies and it chose Jacksonville as its home for its North American headquarters.

The company’s CEO Gerry Phimister said there are a few key staffers from the United Kingdom that will help establish the company.

One hundred forty-five people have already been hired and there are another 100 people to recruit and he wants to fill the positions with American workers.

“I’m clear to point out this is an American business, senior management team recruited positions are Americans we are keen to promote that,” Phimister said.

The average salary is $67,000 and the jobs range from in the office to out in the field.

“Locally we are hiring administrative jobs for our head office and technical jobs for our field personnel,” Phimister said.

Curry, along with a team of business leaders and city officials, met with City Refrigeration late last year while in London.

Curry said that’s when they sealed the deal

“There were some that questioned our trips to London, as recently as this last fall. And I say today is a statement about investing that time, building those relationships means for our city,” Curry said.

City Refrigeration's headquarters will be located on the Southside at the Cypress Point Business Park.
