Clay County deputies arrest man for attempted murder, allegedly shot mother’s fiancé after argument

ORANGE PARK, Fla. — The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested 20-year-old Jermaine King on Thursday for attempted murder.

According to Sheriff Michelle Cook, King shot his mother’s fiancé after a series of arguments.

The pair got into an argument on Tuesday and another on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, King shot through the glass sliding door of the house his mother’s fiancé was in. The 40-year-old victim was hit twice.

Deputies found the victim in a house on Crystal Way in Orange Park. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

King ran away but was found at the Greyhound bus station in Jacksonville early Thursday morning.

Sheriff Cook said King told deputies “his mother was being disrespected by her fiancé,” and that’s why the shooting happened.

King is currently in the Clay County Jail.
