CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — An intense video shared with Action News Jax shows a Clay County Fair worker stuck in between two floor pieces of the Hydra Ride.
Officials with the Clay County Sheriff’s Office said the man tried to do a good deed, but had bad timing, saying the ride itself had nothing to do with the mishap.
While the ride was stopped, worker Davontai Lee said he was trying to get a hat that someone lost while on the ride. Moments later, he said his life was flashing before his eyes.
“I put my hand like, let it stay down, do not lift the bottom up. When I got close to going done to get the hat, I heard it say it lifted up and pushed my stomach and everything and it clamped it. I was so scared... I thought I was going to die” Lee stated.
The Sheriff’s Office says he was trapped for around 15 minutes and is expected to make a full recovery.
Lee is still in the hospital with multiple bruises and marks on his stomach, back, and arms.
Officials say the ride itself is operating fine, with Lee claiming another operator brought the floor pieces up into his body, stating the person was new to the specific ride.
Lee says it could have been much worse and is thankful to have survived.
“I am very blessed to be alive, I am very blessed to be here with my family and tell them I love them. Tell my two daughters I love them’.
Lee said he has been working at the Clay County Fair for at least eight years, but moving forward he does not think he will return and is planning on taking legal action.
