The event is set to run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Middleburg Community Paramedic Office on Blanding Boulevard. It is an event that is held on Thursdays weekly for all who are interested.

This event is being held in response to the growing overdose epidemic here in the United States and strongly affects our area. Florida tops the list when it comes to overdoses, specifically involving a drug called eutylone, which is also known as bath salt.

According to the CDC, Florida’s eutylone-related overdoses are more than 53% of the total overdoses in the United States.

Stats like these are prompting Clay County Fire Rescue to host a Narcan distribution and education event. Narcan is a nasal spray that can treat narcotic overdoses in an emergency situation.

Robert Zellner is in recovery and knows first hand how opioids like eutylone and fentanyl can affect a community.

“It’s a stark reminder of what we’re fighting,” he said. “They’re numbers that represent a lot of my lost friends, lost loved ones, friends of friends and their family members.”
