Across the country, the Day of Service offers individuals, families, and organizations the chance to give back in a way that brings people together, while improving the quality of life where they live. Volunteer events can include community center clean-ups, flower garden plantings, public park improvements, and more.

In a statement, the Clay County Sheriff’s Office shared how this event would honor King’s legacy:

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. believed in a nation of freedom and justice for all, and encouraged all to act and recommit as citizens by volunteering in service to others. It is a way to honor his life and teachings by engaging in community action that continues to solve social problems. It serves to break down barriers by bringing people from different experiences together.  Volunteering can unite people of all ages and backgrounds while building stronger communities.
