Clay County: Is your name on the list? There are more than $7,300 in unclaimed funds

Stack of cash

Clay County residents and business owners: there may be money waiting to be claimed by you.

Annually, the Finance Office of Clay County Clerk of Court and Comptroller Tara S. Green reviews unclaimed and uncashed checks. If the money has not been claimed in more than a year, officials make the public aware to give people one last chance to cash in.

Right now there are more than $7,300 in unclaimed funds from 2019.

According to the Clay County Clerk’s Office, the money comes from nearly 200 uncashed checks for jury service, witness, overpayment, refund, cash bond or garnishment deposits.

While some check amounts may be as small as $5, there are others worth hundreds of dollars.

The checks listed in the below document were mailed more than a year ago but have not been cashed.

If your name is on the list, to claim the money, you must fill out this form and either

  • email it to the Clerk of Court’s Finance Office at LeiningerA@clayclerk.com
  • or print it and mail the completed form to Clay County Clerk of Court and Comptroller’s Office, Attn: A. Leininger, Finance Office, P.O. Box 698, Green Cove Springs, Florida, 32043

Residents have until September 30, 2021 to return the completed form. Officials will then verify it and the resident can expect to receive their money in the mail.

If the money is not collected by the deadline, Section 116.21 of Florida statutes allows the funds to be forfeited and deposited into the Clerk’s Fine and Forfeiture Fund.

For questions or more information, call the Clay County Clerk of Court and Comptroller’s Office at (904) 529-4230.
