CLAY COUNTY, Fla. — Two children survived a crash that left one man dead Sunday afternoon in Clay County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The single-vehicle crash happened just before 5:15 p.m. northbound on State Road 23, just a half a mile south of Argyle Forest Boulevard.

For reasons officials said are still under investigation, the driver of the SUV went off the road, lost control, and hit a light pole.

Two passengers, an 11-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, both of Middleburg, were taken to Orange Park Medical Center with minor injuries.

However, the driver, a 32-year-old Jacksonville man, died of his injuries.

Troopers said he was thrown from the SUV during the crash. The report stated he was not wearing a seat belt.
