ORANGE PARK, Fla. — The Clay County Sheriff’s Office announced that Kiaun Miller, a 24-year-old from Orange Park, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder after a Christmas Day shooting.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office also identified the victim as Shantdella Garcon. Family members are now planning funeral arrangements for the single mother of one.
According to a Go-Fund-Me set up to help with the cost, Shantdella was beloved by many.
Action News Jax was on the scene of the investigation Friday afternoon. The CCSO said the victim died from multiple gun shot wounds. A neighbor said he heard three shots fired.
“Out of nowhere I just heard three gunshots and then there was yelling,” Richard Baeur said. “I opened my back door to see what was going on and realized, oh man, I think someone has been shot.”
He was just next door with his family, including his 10-year-old son, celebrating Christmas. They hunkered down upstairs and Bauer called 911.
“Honestly breaks my heart to think you can get so mad at somebody in the moment that you decide to take their life. You can’t take a bullet back,” Bauer said.
Bauer told Action News Jax’s Robert Grant that there were other children in the apartment at the time of the shooting. The sheriff’s office has not yet confirmed that information.
