An arrest warrant and a new document is providing more detailed information into the four charges Clay County Sheriff Darryl Daniels is facing.
He faces a third-degree felony of evidence tampering and three first-degree misdemeanors of giving false information to law enforcement.
Action News Jax reported Thursday when Daniels was was arrested and booked into the Clay County Jail and later released.
An investigation into the sheriff sparked May of 2019 when Daniels reportedly accused his former mistress of stalking and ordered his deputies to detain her. She was never arrested or charged but many questioned how Daniels handled the events of that night.
According to documents, prosecutors say Daniels tried to get rid of evidence on a cell phone.
Daniels did not make a first appearance before a judge Friday morning. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 25.
