Deputies said James Wooten’s son, Shayne, was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in the stomach.
Action News Jax has confirmed one suspect in the shooting, Taylor Hill, 22, should never have been free in the first place.
Court records show Hill cut off his ankle monitor and was on the run for nearly a month.
After serving seven years for armed burglary and dealing in stolen property, Hill’s ankle monitor was a requirement of his probation.
But, court records show in early December, Hill’s landlord discovered Hill’s sister in the home who she has a no trespass order on.
She also said Hill was allegedly cooking meth in the home.
Documents show Hill initially told his probation officers he was moving, but then ran.
“Meth, it ruins people, and I feel that maybe the meth overtook them,” the source said.
Thursday night, the Florida Department of Corrections told Action News Jax after the device was cut Dec 3, it immediately began attempts to contact Hill.
DOC said when that was unsuccessful, they submitted a violation of probation three days later, and five days after that, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
They said Hill’s last known location was Jacksonville.
“It’s like something you would see in a movie,” the source said. “I’m having a hard time accepting that it’s real.”
