WATCH: Thieves steal Christmas decorations from Middleburg coffee shop

The owner of Royal Moose Coffee Company tells Action News Jax the suspects stole a mailbox for kids to send letters to Santa along with several other ornaments early Sunday morning.

The shop has been a holiday hot spot for families for several years to get some holiday cheer in Middleburg.

The owner said she adds a little more to the Christmas collection every year over the past three years.

”It’s sad. It’s incredibly sad,” Dana Ruckersfeldt said. She was at the shop with her grandchildren Friday before Black Friday shopping. “Why would somebody do that?”

She makes the trip down from Orange Park often to get a cup of coffee. “It’s unique, it’s special and it’s locally owned.”

Another customer agreed. “Their drinks are good,” Michelle Koester said. “It’s a small business — we try to give them support.”

While the owner said the dollar amount of what was stolen isn’t important, she added you can’t put a price tag on the cheer it brought families.

The Clay County Sheriff’s posted security footage of the theft on its Facebook page Tuesday.

Deputies are asking the public for help identifying the two female and male suspect involved.

In the security footage, you can see the suspects run back and forth multiple times and take a mailbox along with two oversized candy canes. There’s also video showing them attempting to snipe ornaments from one of the trees outside.

After Royal Moose posted the video on its Facebook page, it captured the attention of hundreds. One neighbor donated her candy canes to help.
