Command Master Chief

Born and raised in Greer, South Carolina, CMDCM (SW) William Jefferson Mullinax enlisted in July 1987. He reported to basic training in Great Lakes, IL Nov 22, 1987 and graduated in Jan 1988. He graduated from Engineman “A” school in April 1988. In May 1988 CMDCM (SW) Mullinax reported to his first command, USS KIDD (DDG-993). While onboard he participated in Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
CMDCM (SW) Mullinax reported to Sima Portsmouth in June 1993 as a maintenance technician at HLS Rast in charge of Rapid Securing Devices. In July 1995 he reported aboard the USS COMTE DE GRASSE (DD-974), participating in numerous anti-drug operations, two UNITAS deployments and decommissioning her in October 1998. After decommissioning USS COMTE DE GRASSE (DD-974) he reported aboard USS GONZALEZ (DDG-66) as the Leading Petty Officer for A-Division. While onboard he deployed and participated in Operation Nobile Anvil. In 2001, he was selected as USS GONZALEZ’s Sailor of the Year and later selected as DESRON 18 Sailor of the Year. Also in 2001 he made another deployment with the ship and participated in Operation Enduring Freedom.
CMDCM (SW) Mullinax reported to PCMST-8 in Jan 2002 and deployed in March 2002 with the USS THUNDERBOLT (PC-12) in direct support of Homeland Security. While onboard he was selected to Chief Petty Officer in Aug 2002. In Dec 2002, he reported aboard USS RAMAGE (DDG-61) as the Leading Chief Petty Officer of A-Division deploying to the Persian Gulf in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004. In Jan 2005, he reported aboard USS SAN JACINTO (CG-56) as the Leading Chief Petty Officer of A-Division deploying to Persian Gulf in direct support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. While onboard he was selected to Senior Chief Petty Officer.
In June 2006, CMDCM (SW) Mullinax reported to the Senior Enlisted Academy in class 125 Blue group and graduated in July 2006. In July 2006, CMDCM (SW) Mullinax reported to PC Crew Hotel as Main Propulsion Assistant and Chief of the Boat. In 2007, he deployed to the Arabian Gulf embarked on USS CHINOOK (PC-9).
In February 2008, CMDCM (SW) Mullinax reported aboard USS ASHLAND (LSD-48) as Engineering Department Leading Chief Petty Officer. Also in February 2008 CMDCM (SW) Mullinax deployed with the USS NASSAU (LHA-4) Expeditionary strike group on board the USS ASHLAND (LSD-48). In April 2008 while on deployment CMDCM (SW) Mullinax was promoted to Master Chief Petty Officer. In February 2009, CMDCM (SW) was selected to the Command Master Chief Program.
In November 2009, CMDCM (SW) Mullinax reported aboard USS MITSCHER (DDG-57) for his first tour as a Command Master Chief. In August 2012, CMDCM (SW) Mullinax reported aboard USS ROOSEVELT (DDG-80) for his second tour as Command Master Chief.
In February 2014, CMDCM (SW) Mullinax reported to USS IWO JIMA (LHD-7) as the seventh CMC for his third tour as Command Master Chief.
His Personal awards include six Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, seven Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, five good conduct medals, Combat Action Ribbon and various campaign and service medals.
