Nonstop flights to New York City area coming to St. Augustine airport next month

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. — Travelers will soon have a new flight option to get to the New York City area from Northeast Florida.

Previously, if you arrived or departed from the Northeast Florida Regional Airport in St. Augustine, you would have had to be on a private plane.

According to officials, that will soon change.

Airport leaders announced Tuesday that Elite Airways plans to bring a nonstop service to NYC/Newark from the St. Augustine airport.

The new service will begin on November 19 and will operate weekly on Mondays and Fridays.

Officials say the flights depart from Newark, New Jersey, at 11 a.m., arrive at St. Augustine at 1:15 p.m., depart St. Augustine at 2 p.m. and arrive at Newark at 3:50 p.m.

Tickets will start at $129 each way. To book a flight, call 877-393-2510 or visit the Elite Airways’ website.

“We believe this route will be a home run as it connects historic St. Augustine and Ponte Vedra Beach with the New York City area — two highly sought-after tourist destinations,” John Pearsall, the president of the airline, said. “We would like to thank Northeast Florida Regional Airport and St. Johns County Airport Authority officials for their support, as well as officials at Newark Liberty International Airport.”

Earlier this year, the airport also received a $700,000 grant from the Department of Transportation.

That funding will be used for a revenue guarantee and marketing for a nonstop service to Charlotte, N.C., on American Airlines.
