More than 250 skimmers were found across Florida in just a few weeks.
As families begin traveling for summer break, Commissioner Nikki Fried is urging you to take precautions.
She says families should take a close look at the pump and avoid any that are open or unlocked, or have the security tape cut. You can also pay inside.
If you do pay at the pump, try to go to one closest to the building. It’s also recommended that you avoid using your debit card – credit cards have higher protections.
Some gas stations outside florida have turned to technology such as PumpShield. The silent alarm system sends an alert to headquarters if anyone tampers with a pump.
