Pickup truck, JFRD tanker truck collide at Monument and McCormick roads

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The driver of a pickup truck is in serious condition after colliding with a Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department tanker truck that was heading to a 911 call.

As crews responded to the crash, the intersection of Monument and McCormick Road was shut down.

The firefighter involved in the crash is OK, as the tanker truck appeared to also hit a light pole, which is being repaired by JEA.

Cell phone video sent to Action News Jax from a witness shows the fiery crash.

“Honestly, it’s got to be the worst accident I’ve ever witnessed on the road,” said Scott Ryder, who was stuck in traffic and took the video moments after the crash.

“People were scrambling around the truck that was on fire and they started grabbing the guy out,” Ryder said. “Bunch of Navy guys got out of their cars and went to go try and help.

A JFRD spokesperson said that while the crash is still being investigated, early indications show that the driver of the pickup was at fault.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it is still an active investigation.
