In a recent poll conducted by the Public Opinion Research Lab at the University of North Florida, between Oct. 1 and Oct. 4, likely Florida voters see Democratic nominee and former Vice President Joe Biden as the frontrunner in the presidential race.
The online survey comprised 3,142 registered likely voters in Florida. Of the survey takers, 81% voted in the 2018 Florida general election, 39% of the respondents were Republican, 38% were Democrat, and 22% were no party affiliation.
According to the survey, 51% of the people stated they plan to vote for Biden while 45% said they intend on voting for the Republican candidate, President Donald Trump.
“1% of respondents said they would vote for someone else, while 3% are still unsure,” according to the PORL.
Dr. Michael Binder, the director of PORL, said the majority of the responses from the survey were collected on the two days following the Sept. 29 debate and "do not account for voter concerns following the President’s recent COVID-19 diagnosis.”
Binder believes the 6-point gap between Biden and Trump is “likely attributed to the immediate aftermath of the debate.”

“However, this is Florida, and I expect the election results to be very close once all the votes are counted," Binder said.
These likely Florida voters were also asked other questions related to the Nov. 3 election, like if they plan to vote, the method they plan to use, if they believe the results of the presidential election will be fair and trustworthy and if the most recent presidential debate influenced their decision on who to vote for.
Poll results show 88% will definitely vote, 42% plan to vote by mail, 10% of Florida likely voters strongly disagree that the results of the election would be fair and trustworthy and 73% of Florida likely voters said the debate was not influential on their decision.
