DeSantis blasts D.C., N.Y. political crowd for being listed as an attendee at correspondents dinner

“The Daily Show” host and comedian Trevor Noah took multiple jabs at Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state of Florida during the White House Correspondents dinner Saturday night, but maybe the biggest controversy to come out of the situation was over the governor’s attendance.

Trevor Noah didn’t go easy on Florida on Saturday night.

“Or as they say in Florida, ‘Don’t ask, don’t tell.’ Am I right?” said Noah, taking aim at the governor for not disclosing his booster status.

He even spoke directly to DeSantis.

“I see you Ron. I see you, player. I’ve seen what you’ve been doing. Blaming Trump for the lockdowns,” said Noah.

There was only one problem, however. Despite DeSantis being listed on the attendance sheet, he wasn’t there.

“I would never attend that. I have no interest in that. I do not watch it. I don’t care what they do,” said DeSantis at a press conference in Jacksonville Monday.

The governor had this to say about being listed as an attendee:

“That is a lie. And so here they are saying how important they are, that they’re somehow these paragons of truth and yet there they are lying about something that is readily verifiable,” said DeSantis.

Email exchanges between the governor’s office and outlets Newsmax and USA Today show both invitations were declined due to ”scheduling conflicts.”

But according to DeSantis, an appearance at the event was never in the cards.

“I think it just shows you why that cabal of people in D.C. and New York are so reviled by so many Americans. I think it’s a reputation that’s been well-deserved,” said DeSantis.

As part of our questions to the governor, we asked if he had any rebuttal to Trevor Noah’s jabs at him and the Sunshine State, but he didn’t directly address Noah’s comments in his response.
