14-year-old arrested for murder in Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office announced the arrest of 14-year-old Jivonni Duane Sturgis for murder.

On Thursday night, JSO originally said that Sturgis was also charged with four counts of attempted murder, but on Friday morning, the agency said that Sturgis was facing one count of murder.

JSO and the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department responded to the intersection of Ricker Road and Melvin Road in response to a shooting on July 24. According to JSO, officers located a 29-year-old victim with gunshot wounds. The victim was transported with life-threatening injuries but died the following day.

Investigators revealed before the shooting an altercation between several people ensued. At some point, several shots were fired. The investigation revealed Sturgis as the suspect.
