A $47,000 donation from Walmart is going toward a brand new playground for the school.
School leaders showed Action News Jax the old playground that will be replaced. More than 500 students play on it each day.
“We want to keep our babies safe. We don’t want them going home being injured,” Principal Torra Talbott said.
Many of the kids told Action News Jax they can’t wait to have fun on the new playground with their friends.
“I’m looking forward to the new monkey bars,” Seina Johnson, a second grader, said. “Also, the slide and the blocks with the holes in the side.”
Principal Talbott said the time spent on new monkey bars and slides can have a big effect on their learning.
“A lot of social skills, motor skills,” Talbott said. “We are a STEM program so we look at science, technology, engineering and math, so hopefully this will help them grow.”
School leaders say the new playground is expected to be ready for kids to play on this spring.
