JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Action News Jax interviewed Florida representative John Rutherford about the protest that happened on Capitol Hill Wednesday night.
Rutherford is one of the Republicans who planned to object some of the electoral college votes for Joe Biden.
Action News Jax Ben Becker pressed him on who was to blame for the violence on Capitol Hill.
In the interview, Rutherford told Becker,
" The people that I blame for this who stormed the Capitol of the United States, that’s who I blame. I hope they will be held accountable, I hope that lives and property are not destroyed.”
Becker butted in by saying “You don’t think the president helped stir the pot?”
“Pardon me,” Rutherford said.
“You don’t think the president stirred the pot to get us where we are?” Becker said.
“I always blame the people that commit the crime, they will be responsible I’m sure,” Rutherford said.
Later in the interview, Becker asked Rutherford about being one of the lawmakers who objected to the certification of the electoral votes. He asked him, “How much responsibility do you take for what we are seeing today?”
Rutherford said, “None Ben this is a constitutional process.”
Becker then asked him what his objection was, and Rutherford responded,
" State legislatures have the total authority to set election laws and some states there are some states where that was violated, some changing them two days before.”
