JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Occupants staying at America’s Best Inn at 8220 Dix Ellis Trail have until 5 p.m. on Tuesday to leave the premises after one of the buildings was deemed unsafe, according to records from the City of Jacksonville.

The records state that Building #1 has large cracks in the concrete flooring throughout its entirety. Both the Building Inspection Division and the Fire Prevention Division conducted inspections and determined the building was no longer safe for human occupancy.

Due to the structural integrity being compromised, occupants must vacate Building #1 for their health, safety and welfare. The remaining buildings will be used to accommodate the elderly and individuals with disabilities.

The City of Jacksonville’s Social Services Division will help those who qualify for assistance in finding alternative housing.

A follow-up inspection is planned for Tuesday at 5 p.m. to make sure Building #1 is unoccupied.

This is a developing story that will be updated once more information becomes available.
