Hours-long SWAT standoff in Woodland Acres near Arlington

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — UPDATE 2/23/21 12:15 a.m..:

On Monday afternoon around 5:40 p.m. Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to the 300 block of Tidewater Circle North in reference to a traffic crash where the driver had been shot.

The driver, an adult male, had multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

JSO said he was shot twice, once in the wrist and once in the abdomen.

According to witnesses, the incident first occurred at 345 Tidewater Circle West, where the victim was sitting inside a vehicle, and the suspect came outside, went back into the house retrieved a handgun, then went back outside and started shooting at the victim.

The victim then fled the scene and crashed into another vehicle around the corner at 300 Tidewater Circle N, which was the area JSO first responded to.

After the shooting, the suspect fled back into the house and JSO made several attempts to get the suspect to come out of the house, but he refused.

JSO then called SWAT to respond, as well as the violent crime units.

SWAT used various tactics, including tear gas to get the suspect to come out of the house.

After multiple hours, the suspect surrendered, and was arrested outside of the house. The suspect will now face an aggravated battery charge, according to JSO.

JSO said the suspect was believed to be intoxicated. There was no one else inside the home at the time of the standoff.

Detectives are now processing the scene and investigating the motive behind the shooting.

According to JSO, there was an incident at this same location in 2013, but they did not provide any other details.

UPDATE 2/22/21 10:25 p.m.:

Neighbors have told reporter, Dani Bozzini that a man shot someone, then barricaded himself in his home. Note, this has not been confirmed by JSO.

There are at least 10 to 20 families who have not been able to get to their home, according to Bozzini, as police have the areas blocked off.

Within the last hour, there have been several SWAT trucks come through, and two battering rams.

On scene, Bozzini heard what appeared to be SWAT telling someone to come outside of their home peacefully.

One neighbor’s security footage shows police officers scrambling back and forth, and what looked like an ambulance arriving and leaving.

You can also hear what sounds like people arguing and then a gunshot on the security video.

Neighbors told Bozzini that the person who was shot was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Neighbors also said this is not the first time SWAT has shown up to their neighbor’s home, and that their neighborhood was shut down years ago in a similar situation. We are working to confirm this information with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
