JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Family and friends celebrated the life of a 23-year-old man shot and killed in Riverside. His family said he died a hero.
Last week, we told you Blake Hendrix was shot and killed behind a business in Riverside. People who work nearby said a fight broke out at a bar before the shooting.
Hendrix’s father said he stepped up to break up that fight and died a hero.

“I want everybody to know that he was a hero that he laid his life down for his friend," Alan Hendrix, Blake’s father, said. “He had a friend that needed him and when that time came, my son wasn’t a coward.”
JSO arrested 28-year-old Rodney Braziel and charged him with second-degree murder in connection with Hendrix’s death. He is not eligible for bond, according to the JSO inmate log.
