COVID-19 testing site in St. Johns County set to shut down due to lack of federal funding

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A local COVID-19 testing site is due to close its doors permanently on this Friday.

Due to a lack of sufficient federal funding, effective at 4 p.m. April 22, the NOMI Health COVID-19 testing site in the St. Johns County Wind Mitigation Building will shut its doors.

Since early March, daily testing numbers from the site have been gradually declining. On average, it now produces less than 100 tests a day. The diminishing numbers are a result of the availability of rapid COVID-19 antigen tests through the federal program of mailing free kits to individuals, as well as a decrease in COVID-19 infections.

The following are the locations that currently offer COVID-19 testing in St. Johns County:

Avecina Medical (Fruit Cove) - https://avecina.com/location/julington-creek
