JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A construction worker in his 50s was killed Friday morning when he was run over by a construction truck that was backing up, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said.

The crash happened in the 12000 block of Old St. Augustine Road near Princess Labeth Court in Mandarin, where there is ongoing road paving happening, JSO said.

JSO said the man who was killed was working as a “flagman” around 9:45 a.m. in the shut down lane northbound on Old St. Augustine Road.

Police said he was facing south when the construction truck was backing up in the shut down lane and ran over the flagman.

No one else was involved in the crash and no one else was injured and the company working on the road is Preferred Materials, Inc., JSO said.

Traffic on Old St. Augustine Road is flowing, but JSO said the east intersection of Princess Labeth Court and Old St. Augustine Road may be closed for a few more hours.
