A St. Johns County woman received her punishment for driving drunk and causing a crash that killed Cathy Adams, a Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office bailiff Friday morning in court.

Kim Johnston was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the death of Adams by a judge. She was sentenced to five years for the second count of DUI causing serious bodily injury. Both sentences will run at the same time. Johnston is getting credit for 335 days of time served.

Cathy Adams was with her husband William “Jack” Adams, a Jacksonville Sheriff Officer, and their children traveling north on I-95 in St. Johns County, nearly a year ago, when Johnston’s car collided with them.

The collision caused the Adams family SUV to overturn, ejecting Cathy from the SUV. Driving will be revoked for the remainder of Johnston’s life, according to the judge.
