Jacksonville, Fla. — Saturday morning at 6 a.m., St. Johns County will join Duval and open its beaches, just with certain restrictions.
Action News Jax reporter Russell Colburn is live on FOX30 at 10.
The Action News Jax Skyvision drone was over Jacksonville Beach at 5 p.m. Friday when people could come out to exercise.
The mayors for Jacksonville, Neptune and Atlantic Beaches said people followed the rules and kept their distance.
“It’s awesome,” beachgoer Mary Edwards said. “It’s invigorating, it’s freeing, no four walls around you anymore.”
From here, officials hope people respect the hours: 6-11 a.m. and 5-8 p.m., and the restrictions. They said no sunbathing will be allowed, just activities that keep you up and moving.
Towels, chairs and coolers are prohibited.
“If for some reason it turns into helter-skelter, we’re going to pull the plug again, and we don’t want to see that any more than you do,” Jacksonville Beach Mayor Charlie Latham said.
For most, the following added rules was well worth getting some sun.
“I feel better already,” Edwards said. “I’ll be ready for another lockdown after this.”
St. Johns County will have similar rules in place Saturday, except their hours will be only 6 a.m. until noon.
Nassau County will keep its beaches closed for at least the weekend.
